Egmont Fonden had a big impact. Most of the children had found new friends and had gotten a break from normal school were they often didn’t feel like they fitted in. But my insights also showed a problem. Because the children need a safe environment more than others they hesitated to join the program. We advised Egmont Fonden to focus more on on-boarding of the children in the future.
Children in care are doing significantly worse than other children in school. Only every second child finishes their formal education from 9th grade with a diploma. Egmont Fonden is trying to change this by giving children in care the opportunity to attend their special Learning Camps over the summer. Egmont Fonden wanted to know how the Learning Camps made a change in the children’s lifes.
Children in care have already lived through hard times and are fragile. They need a safe environment and you need to gain their trust in a much deeper way than you normally would.
Through in-depth interviews with children in care I got their version of how they saw their life and how the Learning Camps provided by Egmont Fonden had influenced their achievements in school.
